In April 2026, the long-awaited reclassification of marijuana from a Schedule 1 drug (on par with heroin) to a Schedule 3 drug (comparable to Tylenol® with codeine) was announced by the Department of Justice. The historic rescheduling of medical marijuana will favorably impact the cannabis industry — and potentially could improve licensed marijuana operators’ access to financial institutions’ products and services.
