Evelyn Rivas, executive assistant at German American Bank, Jasper, has been honored with the Woman on the Rise award, sponsored by SmithAmundsen LLC, Indianapolis. She was presented with the inaugural award on Nov. 21 in Indianapolis at the Banking on Women Conference of the Indiana Bankers Association. This honor recognizes a woman in emerging bank leadership who is community-active, achievement-oriented, and who contributes to team success.
Andrew J. Briggs, 2019 chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association, was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Eric J. Holcomb on Sept. 15. The award was presented by Thomas C. Fite, director of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick. The Sagamore of the Wabash award is given to exemplary Hoosiers in recognition of distinguished statewide service.
Lucas White, president of The Fountain Trust Company, Covington, has been elected 2020 chairman of the board of directors of the Indiana Bankers Association. The election took place on Sept. 16 at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick. White currently serves the IBA as first vice chairman and will become chairman effective Jan. 1, 2020.
State Rep. Jeff Ellington, R- Bloomington, has been named 2019 Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Bankers Association. He was presented with the award on Sept. 16 at the IBA’s annual convention in French Lick. Since taking office in 2015, Rep. Ellington has proven to be an effective legislator who understands how to build consensus and fix problems facing the state and his constituents.
The Indiana Bankers Association has recognized six members of the Indiana banking community with Leaders in Banking Excellence awards, the Association’s highest honor. The awards were initiated in 2018 to celebrate exceptional leaders who have positively impacted Indiana banks and the communities they serve.
Members of the Indiana banking community presented a donation of $135,000 to Purdue University Northwest at a PNW Banking Program Summit held in Hammond on May 24. The donation supports a newly created banking concentration to be offered within the finance major of the College of Business. This university-level banking concentration is the first of its kind in Indiana.
The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, has been honored with the 2018 Commitment to Community Award by the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA). The inaugural “C2C” Award, showcasing exceptional community bank outreach during 2018, was presented on May 14 in downtown Indianapolis.

IBA Insurance Solutions is a full-service, independent insurance agency created to serve the needs of Indiana banks by providing industry-specific expertise. Members of the 2019 board of directors of the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA) have assumed positions, effective Jan. 1. Board members were elected at the IBA Annual Convention last September.
The functions of the board are to develop IBA policy and to establish long-range goals and objectives. The board also helps determine the Association’s legislative programs and positions on issues affecting the Indiana banking community.
Jessica Carroll, CEO of The New Washington State Bank, Charlestown, has been named 2018 Woman of the Year by the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA). This inaugural award was presented at the IBA Banking on Women Conference in Indianapolis in November. Award criteria were professional excellence, community outreach, and the ability to help lift other women to succeed.
Seventeen members of the Indiana banking community completed the 2018 Leadership Development Program of the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA) on Oct. 12. Designed to heighten leadership ability within the industry, the Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a series of four multiday sessions, spaced over an eight-month period, held at Wooded Glen Retreat and Conference Center in Henryville.
Andrew J. Briggs, current president and CEO of the Bank of Geneva, has been elected 2019 chairman of the board of directors of the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA), effective Jan. 1, 2019. He was elected in September at the Association’s Annual Convention in French Lick. Briggs represents the fifth generation of his family to serve as president of Bank of Geneva, following in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather James Day, great-grandfather Andrew G. Briggs, grandfather James D. Briggs Sr.
State Rep. Michael Karickhoff, R-Kokomo, has been named 2018 Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA). He was presented with the award on Sept. 10 at the Association’s annual convention in French Lick. Karickhoff was recognized for his skillful bipartisan consensus-building, combined with a keen understanding of fiscal issues critical to the economic wellbeing of Hoosiers.
Clay W. Ewing, president, chief banking officer and secretary to the board of directors of German American Bancorp Inc. and of German American Bank, Jasper, has been named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Eric J. Holcomb. Additionally, Ewing serves the banking community as 2018 chairman of the board of the Indiana Bankers Association (IBA). The award was presented to Ewing by Thomas C. Fite, director of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick on Sept. 9.
