STATEHOUSE (Sept. 18, 2017) – State Rep. Tom Washburne (R-Evansville) has been named 2017 Legislator of the Year by the Indiana Bankers Association.
Washburne was presented an award by Dax Denton, IBA senior vice president of government relations, on Sept. 11, at the association’s annual convention in French Lick. He was recognized for his support of the Indiana banking community and for promoting legislation favorable to the growth of the industry and the communities they serve. Washburne also serves as corporate counsel of Old National Bancorp in Evansville.
“In his dual role as bank counsel and a legislator, he is in an ideal position to apply thorough understanding of the complexities of banking with the Indiana legislative process,” Denton said. “His sharp analytical approach to policy, plus willingness to ask probing questions, have earned him a position of high regard in the Indiana legislature.”
First elected in 2012, Washburne serves House District 64, which includes Gibson County and portions of Know, Pike, Vanderburgh and Posey counties.
“I’m honored to be recognized by the Indiana Bankers Association and would like to thank them for their dedication to the stability of banking in Indiana,” Washburne said. “The entire staff works preserve quality and safe banking, which is essential to maintaining free markets, individual responsibility and the liberty we all enjoy.”
The Indiana Bankers Association’s mission includes supporting Indiana banking through issues analysis, professional education, and products and services that enhance financial institutions’ ability to help build better communities.
