The continuing transformation toward digital platforms creates new opportunities and challenges related to your banks’ physical security strategy. Banks must protect not just monetary assets, but also critical infrastructure that supports their digital ventures. Servers, for instance, which hold vast amounts of data to support business strategies and operational requirements, require strong physical security measures.

And the emergence of advanced digital technologies, growing bigger each day, offers a two-fold opportunity. Digital advances facilitate easier system integration such as networked video surveillance platforms that integrate with various digital systems, provide a unified security solution. Alternatively, the reliance on these digital solutions compels you to fortify your physical security to protect the hardware that drives them.

The IBA Bank Security Officer Forum provides a platform and opportunity for management level personnel and staff to exchange ideas freely, compare practices, and discuss important strategic and operational issues with peers.

Topics

The Topics for each session will flow based on feedback from participants in the forum group.  As necessary, subject matter experts will be brought in to cover specific issues and topics based on responses from forum members.

POSSIBLE FORUM TOPICS:

While much of the discussion will be based on what the members of the forum want to cover, here are just some of the topics that we’ve heard are on the radar screens of today’s bank security professionals.

  • Best practices in the implementation of physical security components
  • Compare the data analytics your peers are utilizing to measure program effectiveness
  • New methods and challenges to merge physical security and data security needs
  • Principles of physical security in a world of physical confrontations
  • Implementing layered security to achieve the principles
  • The use of social media and its impact on physical security
  • The role of physical security resources and fraud prevention and investigation
  • Threat analysis teams and active threat planning
Speaker(s)

Jim Rechel is president of The Rechel Group, Inc., a risk-consulting firm headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He is one of the board of The Institute for Criminal Justice Education, Montgomery, Alabama and a member of numerous national organizations and is a Certified Financial Security Officer.  He is a past local board member of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators Association and the American Society of Industrial Security. Prior to working for The Rechel Group, Inc., Jim was Vice President for Fifth Third Bank headquartered in Cincinnati, where he held positions in various departments, including Retail and Lending, and Security Director and was a Special Agent with the FBI.

Additional Information

How the Forum Works

  • IBA will organize the forum based on bank size to ensure participants have as much in common as possible
  • The group will be small—no more than 20 participants
  • The forum will meet three times during the year
  • Eight to ten topics will be discussed at each session; participants are strongly encouraged to suggest agenda topics of interest
  • Facilitated discussion with supplemental documents and reference documents provided to enhance discussion
  • Guest presentations from industry experts including a roundtable discussion with IT examiners from each regulatory agency
  • A binder based on forum topics is compiled for each forum member
Fees

The following fees include three consecutive sessions to the forum and the program materials.

IBA member - $999 per person

Participation in this IBA Forum is limited to IBA member financial institutions, and nonmembers financial institutions from an eligible membership category at applicable member or non-member rates.

Cancellation Policy

Due to our commitments, the price is inclusive of all three sessions. A full refund for the 3-session forum will be given for cancellations received prior to the first session. Any registrant who does not cancel before the first session will be billed the full registration fee and sent the materials. Substitutions are welcome at no additional charge. It is the registrant's responsibility to find a substitute if unable to make a session.
